ASP.NET/Web Forms is a part of the .NET framework that allows you to build web forms. Web forms allow you to pass information that you type in your internet browser (like a search field or fields in application) to a server which then performs actions based on the commands you type in.  For instance, when you enter your name in an application field, the web form passes that information to a database, that stores your information for the company, that information can then be accessed by the company.  Storage in the database also enables autocomplete features, because fields can be encoded to reference previous fields before asking the user to complete the field.
